2010 NCAA Div. II Nationals
March 12-13 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha

Session III Place Matches Notebook

The third, fifth and seventh-place matches at the NCAA Div. II Nationals were contested Saturday afternoon in Omaha. Below is a brief description of the matches involving wrestlers with ties to the state of Iowa.

125 - Former Fort Madison standout Russell Weakley of UNC-Pembroke defaulted out of the tournament on Saturday and finished eighth.

133 - Kyle Pedretti of Upper Iowa faced Seridan Moran of Newberry for third-place honors. Pedretti defeated Moran in the opening round, 2-1, and won this time around as well, 6-4. Pedretti scored a takedown and two near fall in the first period on his way to victory.

Former Winterset star Laramie Shaffer of Augustana wrestled for fifth against Corey Bowers of Gannon. Shaffer jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead on his way to a 9-7 victory.

141 - No Iowans in place matches.

149 - Former Central Lyon two-time State champ Nate Herda of Augustana took on Thomas Hepburn of Nebraska-Kearney for third place. Hepburn scored a takedown in the final 15 seconds for a 5-3 victory. After a first-round loss, Hepburn reeled off five victories in a row for the bronze.

157 - Former Hinton grappler Marcus Edgington of Augustana met Andy Lamancusa of Mercyhurst for third place. Edgington defeated Lamancusa in the opening round, 6-4 in overtime. In the third-place bout, Edgington dropped a 2-1 decision. Both earned escapes and the deciding point was a stall call against Edgington midway through the second period.

165 - Gavin Nelson of Augustana, who was a two-time State runner-up for Missouri Valley, wrestled Matt Gille of Wisconsin-Parkside for seventh place honors. Gille threw Nelson to his back midway through the first period and recorded the fall in 1:40.

174 - Mitch Norton of Upper Iowa faced Anthony Petrella of Gannon for third place. Norton finished off a perfect 8-0 session for the Peacocks with a solid 7-2 win.

184 - No Iowans in place matches.

197 - No Iowans in place matches.

285 - No Iowans in place matches.
