Junior Freestyle Friday night breakdowns
A quick look at every match Friday night involving an Iowa wrestler in
the Junior Freestyle National Tournament. All the wrestlers had clinched
All-American honors and were battling for place matches.
They are listed in the order they were wrestled.
171 - Evan Knight vs. Mike England
The first bout of the night was the best. A pair of Iowans with title
match hopes battled in a round robin bout.
Knight used a front headlock roll on is way to a solid 5-0 win in the
first period. Knight was on top 3-0 in the second when England began his
comeback. A 3-point takedown for England and a 2-point roll for Knight
made it 5-5 late in the period, with Knight leading based on the 3-point
move. He hung on for that 5-5 win to send them into the third period.
England shot another low single early in the third, but
Knight countered for three points. After a wild flurry midway through
the period, it was a 5-5 tie, but Knight led based on the 3-point move.

Knight takedown attempt in the final seconds for the 6-5 period win to
take the thrilling match.

and Iowa's Evan Knight would make the finals. The only way Storely could
make the finals was by a technical fall or pin victory.

7-1 first-period win. In the second period, he rolled England to his
back and got the fall he needed to reach the finals.

a late takedown for a 4-0 period win to take the match.
285 - Austin Blythe vs. Connor Medbery (Colorado)
Blythe didn't have a chance to make the finals at this point based on an
earlier loss by fall, but a win would meet a chance at the bronze medal.

win. After getting taken down out of bounds to his back for a 3-0
deficit in the second, Blythe tossed Medbery to his back and earned the

160 - Nick Moore vs. Michael Kelly
The match everyone from Iowa wanted to see ever since the brackets were
released. The winner was off to the finals, while the loser would have
