This was the second meeting early in the season between these two highly-ranked big men. Rush won the first meeting in the title bout of the first tournament of the season, 13-6. This time out it would be a much closer match, but would have the same winner.

1st Period:  Rush drew first blood with a takedown and nearly turned Grossman a couple of times later in the period.

2nd Period: Grossman started the period down and escaped to cut the lead in half. A nice sweep single takedown by Rush gave the Griswold grappler a 4-1 lead. Grossman scored another escape with seven seconds left in the period to make it a 4-2 lead.

3rd Period: A wild third period began with a Rush reversal after just five seconds. Grossman earned a reversal of his own a minute later to make it a 6-4 lead for Rush. The Griswold wrestler scored his second reversal of the period to go up 8-4. Grossman made it four reversals in the period with 17 seconds left in the match and nearly took Rush to his back. But Rush was able to hang on for the 8-6 win.
