145 - This is the match everyone was waiting to see. 10th-ranked T.J. Moen of Saydel won 8-7 over No. 4 Esai Dominguez of Creighton Prep. 29-12 Iowa Moen jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Dominguez tied the match at 3-3 by the end of the first period. Moen once again went up by three in the second period, but a pair of Dominguez escapes and a takedown by the Creighton Prep four-time State finalist and two-time champ gave him a 7-6 lead late in the match. Moen secured a reversal with 25 seconds left in the bout and held Dominguez down for the victory. |
152 - DeVaughn Perkins of Omaha North won 12-5 over Andrew Sorenson of Forest City. 29-15 Iowa Ninth-ranked Perkins scored four nearfall points in the second period for a 6-2 lead and sent Sorenson to his back in the final moments for the win in a bout between a pair of undefeated State Champions. |
152 - Chad Brester of Howells won 15-3 over Ryan Helenthal of Keokuk. 29-19 Iowa Brester used a series of tilts and cradles to score eight near fall points on his way to the major decision in the second straight match that had a pair of undefeated State Champs facing off. |
160 - Robert Kellogg of Sioux City North pinned Matt Mueller of Malcolm in 4:41. 35-19 Iowa Eighth-ranked Kellogg stopped Nebraska's momentum with a big fall for the Iowans. He led 8-4 in the third when he locked up a double arm bar and sent Mueller to his back for the fall. |
103 - Corey Steiger of Lincoln won 7-5 over Ryan Ketelsen of Osage. 35-22 Iowa Ketelsen closed to within 6-5 with a reversal with 25 seconds left in the match, but he had to give Steiger an escape and couldn't score a late a takedown that would have forced overtime. |
189 - Mitch Brown of Millard South won 9-8 over Vinnie Wagner of Osage. 35-25 Iowa Wagner gave up a five-point move in the first period and couldn't quite finish off his comeback bid. The Osage State champ scored three takedowns in the third period, but couldn't quite get a forth in the closing seconds and fell by one. |
215 - Colton White of Tri-Center (Neola) won 4-3 over Daniel Stoelting of Southern Valley. 38-25 Iowa White sealed the dual victory for the Iowans with a tight win over Stoelting. White scored the lone takedown of the match in the first period and added escapes in the second and third periods for the victory. |
285 - Ben Boothby of Clinton won 3-2 over Shawn Meyer of Plainview. 41-25 Iowa This match wasn't as close as the score makes it look. Boothby used his quickness to frustrate the two-time Nebraska State champ all match. Boothby scored a second-period takedown and an escape in the third for the win. He was in on several other shots, while Meyer showed little or no offense. |
