2005 AAU Elementary National Duals
Iowa team makes it 3
titles in 4 years
The 2005 AAU Wrestling
Elementary National Duals Team Championship took place in Kingsport, Tenn.
from April 15-17, 2005.
It was the largest
contingent of AAU elementary wrestlers in Kingsport's six-year history of
hosting the event.
Each year, the AAU
Wrestling Elementary National Duals Team Championship brings teams from
wrestling-rich states like Iowa, Illinois and Michigan. With this kind of
competition, spectators to the event have the opportunity to watch the
country’s top elementary dual teams compete.
The AAU Wrestling
Elementary National Duals was a dual meet formatted national tournament
that follows National Federation of High School Athletic Association (NFHS)
rules for athletes in kindergarten through fifth grades. Elementary duals
features 18 weight classes ranging from 40 pounds to heavyweight (up to
230 pounds) in folkstyle competition.
Iowa's only loss in the last four trips was to Illinois by a narrow margin
two years ago.
Iowa wrestlers going unbeaten in the two-day even included Zach Welter at
60, Brandon Sorensen at 75, Garrett Smith at 90, Derek Giddings at 95,
Nate Shaw at 108, Ross Larson at 119, Nick Smelser at 132 and Bruce
McWilliams at 148.
The Illinois All-Stars Blue had Brian Rossi go unbeaten at 50 and Bill
Chancey at 80 pounds.
Other wrestlers in the meet to win golds by going unbeaten included: 45

Elite and Rodney Sunday, Virginia Thunder; 55 pounds -- Josh Fuqua,

Elite; 100 Pounds -- Taylor Massa, Michigan Bad Boyz; Turner Bishop,
Virginia Thunder; David Reck, Virginia Lightning; 108 pounds -- Jamonni
Anderson, Illinois Elite; Jordan Thomas, Michigan Bad Boyz; 119 -- Bud
