The first rankings from the Women's College Wrestling Association (WCWA) were released on Tuesday afternoon, highlighting the top teams and individuals.
Despite King winning its fourth-straight WCWA team national title last season, Simon Fraser enters the year as the No. 1 ranked team, with three top-ranked wrestlers: Abby Lloyd at 116 pounds, Mallory Velte at 143 pounds and Payten Smith at 191 pounds.
Campbellsville, ranked No. 2 as a team, had two No. 1 wrestlers in Andribeth Rivera at 123 pounds and Kayla Miracle at 136 pounds.
The other five weights featured wrestlers from different schools as the No. 1, including Marina Doi of King at 101, Maria Vidales of Emmanuel College at 109, Megan Black of McKendree at 130, Niauni Hill of Wayland Baptist at 155 and Jessika Rottier of the University of the Cumberlands at 170.
Doi, Rivera, Miracle, Velte, Rottier and Smith all return after winning 2017 WCWA individual national titles.
Rounding out the top-five teams in this month’s rankings are No. 3 McKendree, No. 4 King and No. 5 Wayland Baptist.
