DUBUQUE, Iowa - The seventh-ranked Coe College wrestling team won 38-9 against the Spartans Friday night in Dubuque's Stoltz Sports Center.
Begining the dual at 157 pounds, Dubuque's seventh-ranked Quincy Kalkbrenner won by fall over fifth-ranked Cole Erickson (Mediapolis, Iowa/Mediapolis). The Kohawks answered with back-to-back falls starting with Nathan Olsen (Dakota, Ill./Dakota) in 6:45 at 165 pounds and sixth-ranked Jake Voss (Ryan, Iowa/West Delaware) in 4:00 at 174 pounds. At 184 pounds, Josh Edel (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) won a close 3-2 decision over Spartan Chris Nielsen.
With the Kohawks up 15-6, Andrew Holladay (Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar) won by decision at 197 pounds, while Daniel Petrela took the heavyweight match with a 3-1 win over Brennan Koerperich (Epworth, Iowa/Western Dubuque).
At 125 pounds, Brock Henderson (Coggon, Iowa/North Linn) earned three, four-count nearfalls before winning 16-0 over Dubuque's Caleb Poche. Brady Wilsie (Byron, Ill./Byron) and Brady Ruden (Wilton, Iowa/Wilton) scored the Kohawks another back-to-back falls at 133 pounds (1:19) and 141 pounds (2:09). Levi Azinger (Pella, Iowa/Pella) won the final match of the dual 4-2 at 149 pounds.
The seventh-ranked Kohawks finish Iowa Conference duals with a record of 6-2. Coe's next competition will be competing in the NCAA Regional Championships on Feb. 24th and 25th.
