MANHEIM, Pa. (Duhawks.com) - The Chenoa, Ill. native, Sam Schuler of the Loras wrestling team earned recognition for his academic success this season as announced by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Of 189 individual award winners, Schuler was one of 13 wrestlers from the Iowa Conference.
According to the NWCA, nominees must have at least a 3.2 GPA for the previous full academic year, must be a national qualifier and have a minimum win percentage of at least .500. Wrestlers can also be considered if they placed in the top-six at their respective regional, a win percentage of .500 or better and competed in half of the institution's schedule competition in NCAA championship events.
This is Loras' first NWCA All-Academic award since Nick Steger received the honor in 2015. Schuler finished fourth at the Lower Midwest Regional at 174#. The junior majors in kinesiology and holds a 3.21 GPA.
