Cadet National Duals coming to Spokane, Wash. for the first time, June 13-16

This week, USA Wrestling state associations take their top Cadet athletes to Spokane, Wash., June 13-16 to battle head-to-head for the 2018 Cadet National Duals championship title. The event, which is being held in Washington State for the first time, will be at the Spokane Convention Center.

This event creates an opportunity for Cadet athletes, ages 15-16, to get valuable exposure to national-caliber competition in freestyle and Greco-Roman. The National Duals events, which include the Schoolboy, Cadet and Junior levels, are among the most popular competitions on the annual age-group national schedule.

In 2017, the two teams reaching the finals in both styles were the Minnesota Storm and Illinois. In Greco-Roman, the Minnesota Storm emerged with a close 40-38 win over Illinois. In freestyle, Illinois reversed the result, stopping Minnesota, 46-29 in the championship match.

Last year, taking third in Greco-Roman was Pennsylvania Red, which stopped Iowa Gold, 58-18. Claiming third in freestyle was Ohio Red, which got past Pennsylvania Red, 40-35.

Athletes who go undefeated in a style with a minimum number of bouts achieve the coveted All-Tournament Team honor.

A large number of the athletes who compete in the annual Cadet National Duals will also represent their state at the U.S. Marines Cadet National Championships in Fargo, N.D. in July.
