Emily Shilson became the seventh American to win a women’s freestyle Cadet World title when she rallied with an avalanche of gutwrench turns to beat 2017 World champ Shahana Nazarova 14-4 in the gold medal bout at 43 kilograms. Tiare Ikei followed up the Shilson win by pinning Mongolia’s Munkhgerel Munkhbat to claim a bronze at 49 kilograms. Prior to the medal round, the United States went 1-3 in the semifinal round. Macey Kilty pinned China’s Mengwei Zhang to reach the gold medal bout at 69 kilograms. Sterling Dias, Olivia Shore and Leilah Castro dropped semifinal matches and will wrestle Friday for bronze.
