Upper Iowa welcomed in the Bulldogs of Truman State University to open their 2018-19 season in Dorman Gym on Thursday night. Upper Iowa claimed a 56-0 victory thanks to three falls, a tech fall, two decisions and five open weights for the Bulldogs. Truman State, who is battling to keep their wrestling program alive, brought five wrestlers into the dual to compete.

The five wins in open weights for Truman State came against Jacob Ragsdale (125), Chase Seaney (149), Mac Spotts (157), Jordan Gundrum (174) and Aaron Maloy (HWT).

Maleek Williams (No. 1 at 125) wrestled at 133 pounds and won by decision 12-6. Williams took an early 8-2 lead thanks to a pair of first-period takedowns and four nearfall points. The Miami, Fla. native picked up an escape, a takedown and a ride time point to close out the decision.

Justin Folley (141)  made his debut in an Upper Iowa and came away with a win by fall (5:30). Folley scored three takedowns and a pair of escapes, but it was the final takedown that he took advantage of and worked his position into a cradle for the pin.

Tucker Black (165) scored an impressive 18-3 technical fall (3:58) victory. Black scored a quick takedown and added a pair of four-point nearfalls and a two-point nearfall from his top position. After one more takedown, Black took a 14-2 lead into the second period. Two more takedowns in the second period ended the bout for the technical fall.

Jamie Gehling held an 8-2 lead in the second period when he was able to gain leverage on his opponent recording the second fall of the night () in the second period of the 184-pound match.

Nick Baumler closed the dual with a quick takedown and subsequent pin. The fall was UIU's third of the dual and secured the shutout victory for Upper Iowa.

Under Head Coach Heath Grimm, now in his nineteenth season at the helm of the UIU program, the Peacocks have posted 12 shutouts in nine different seasons. Upper Iowa defeated Knox College 54-0 and Illinois College 57-0 in Grimm's first year at the helm. The Peacocks defeated UNC Pembroke 47-0 at the National Duals in 2006, Northern State University 45-0 in an NSIC dual in 2007, a perfect 60-0 shutout of Wagner in 2009 at the Sprawl and Brawl Duals and a 41-0 NSIC dual win over MSU Moorhead in 2010. During the 2012-13 season, the Peacocks defeated Waldorf College, 53-0, and in 2013-14, UIU claimed three shutouts including wins over Hannibal-LaGrange, 58-0, Calumet College, 57-0, and Northern State, 47-0. Most recently, the Peacocks claimed a 45-0 victory over the University of Mary in January 2015.

After the completion of the dual, the Peacocks wrestled in five exhibition matches against grapplers from Luther College. Donny Schmit (133, unattached) and Ryan Steffen (149, unattached) both won bouts in their first time on the mat in Dorman Gym, as did redshirt freshman Connor Williams (174) and Jordan Gundrum (174). Gundrum's win came by fall. Aaron Maloy (HWT) lost a tight 5-2 decision after entering the final period tied at 2-2.

The Peacocks will head to Rochester Community and Technical College with the freshman and sophomores to compete in the Yellowjacket Open on Saturday, Nov. 3.
