When did you start wrestling?
Do you have any family who wrestled before you? How did they do?
Yes, my uncle Caleb Martin. He has many records at New London.
Did you catch on to wrestling quickly or was it a gradual process?
It took me two years to actually catch on to the sport.
What club did you wrestle for growing up and how would you describe your experience with the club?
I wrestled for The Mediapolis Youth Wrestling Club. The experience was amazing, for I’ve made many friendships.
What are a couple memorable moments from youth wrestling?
Going to Worlds, Tulsa and Southeast Polk Christmas Duals
Who were your wrestling heroes growing up?
My Uncle Caleb.
How did you finish at state tournaments in youth?
I never placed, I would beat really good kids until I got the quarters and lose the close matches.
How did you finish at the state tournaments you wrestled in at the HS level?
I only made state my senior year and I went 0-2.
How cool was it to have at least one year where you were able to wrestle with your younger brother?
It was the greatest experience I’ve had in wrestling.
Was there ever a point in your career where you noticed yourself jumping levels and making huge strides?
Yes when I became a Jjunior I was getting difficult to beat because of my motor.
Who were some of your toughest competitors in HS?
Brady Hahn, Caleb Stoltz, Caleb LaLonde, etc. There’s many more.
What are your wrestling goals now that you are moving on from high school?
I want to become a coach sometime down the road.
How would you describe your wrestling style? Who would you compare yourself to?
Never stopping; Austin Desanto
Do you have any regrets from wrestling or did you leave it all out there?
I have many regrets. Especially junior year at districts losing by one point to the number three ranked guy in the state. If I would’ve pushed a little harder I could’ve won that match and made it to state.
What other sports do you play and how have you done at them?
I played football, baseball, and ran cross country, but I didn’t do them senior year. I was very good at baseball but not very good at football or cross country.
What are some of your hobbies besides wrestling?
Fishing, anything really outdoors.
What is your favorite HS wrestling memory?
Getting to wrestle with my brother.
What is some of the best advice you ever received?
Never give up.
Do you have any advice for up and coming wrestlers?
Make sure you’re mentally ready for these coming four years you will have in HS.

Mark Swafford, Rob Rhum, Jason Payne, Miles Erickson
What are your college plans? Is wrestling in your future whether it be competing or coaching?
Wrestling is in my future but I want to coach instead of compete at the college level.
What is the future outlook for Mepo wrestling?
I think the future is bright with Mepo. We have some great kids coming.
