LAMONI - The Graceland University wrestling team started the 2019-20 campaign in front of their home crowd with a 43-7 victory over Waldorf University.

The night started off in favor of the Warriors of Waldorf University as they took the first matchup at 125 lbs (MD 12-2) to lead 4-0.  Nick Short was able to get the Yellowjackets' first victory of the season at 133 lbs.  He pinned his opponent in 3:29 to give Graceland a 6-4 advantage.

Kahlyn Bressler followed that up with another win (Dec 10-5) at 141 lbs.  At 149 lbs, Trey Heckadon earned Graceland's second pin of the night (Fall 1:53) to bring the dual to 15-4 in favor of the Yellowjackets.

Shea Swafford won the matchup at 157 lbs (MD 12-4) to give the Yellowjackets four more to their team score.  Brennan Swafford at 165 lbs and Robert Denny at 174 lbs both won by forfeit to extend Graceland's lead over the Warriors.

Waldorf would take the matchup at 184 lbs (Dec 4-1).  The dual finished with Justin Outerbridge at 197 lbs and David Toese at 285 lbs winning by forfeit.  Overall, the Yellowjackets would take the dual over their Heart conference foe, 43-7.

After the dual, head coach Zack Mullins spoke highly of his team's performance to kick off the 2019-20 season.  He commented, "Awesome way to start the season in front of our home crowd! I was impressed with the way our guys competed and didn't shy away from any match all night. We still have a lot of growth to encounter this season, but tonight was a glimpse of what style of wrestling these guys can do as a collective unit. More work this weekend as we travel down to the CMU Open to get our guys some more matches!"
