MOUNT VERNON – Klayton Keller (SO/Des Moines, Iowa) and Bryce Oveson (JR/Wilton, Iowa) picked up two victories apiece as Cornell went 1-1 at its Ram Duals on Senior Day Saturday afternoon in the Small Multi-Sport Center.

The Rams rolled to a 32-15 win over UW-Stevens Point, and then came up short against Luther, 24-9. Luther beat UW-Stevens Point, 25-15, in the first meet of the day.

Coach Brent Hamm's Rams moved to 2-2 this season in dual competition.

Keller and Oveson accounted for all 16 of Cornell's near-fall points in the dual with UW-Stevens Point (5-4). Keller (7-4) did not allow a point and pinned Mason Wheeler in 3:24 at 149 pounds.

Oveson (12-1) went to work early and often in the 184-pound bout against Austin Stebane. The junior earned 12 near-fall points and ended the match in 4:00 with an 18-1 technical fall.

Casey Allen (SO/Gilberts, Ill.) at 157 and Wylie Allen (SR/Gilberts, Ill.) at 174 both were victorious in their season debuts against the Pointers. Casey Allen scored three first-period takedowns and hung on for a 6-5 win over Luke Smiley. Wylie Allen dominated Zack Moon for a quick pin in 2:17.

The Rams opened the UW-Stevens Point dual with forfeit wins at 125 (Joey Shaw (FR/Colorado Springs, Colo.)) and 133 (Evan Husko (FR/Wauconda, Ill.)).

In the meet with Luther (2-0), the Norse won seven of the 10 contested matches, many of which hung in the balance in the third period. Luther held a 17-10 advantage in total takedowns.

Keller scored the first six points in his 10-7 decision over Michael Egan. Cornell senior 165-pounder Nic Jarvis (SR/Iowa City, Iowa) (11-3) handled Tanner Weaver for a 7-2 victory.

Oveson earned a hard-fought 6-4 sudden victory over Ira Kuehn. After Kuehn tied it in the final seconds of the third period, Oveson responded with the winning takedown just 14 seconds into the overtime period.

The Norse prevailed in tight matches at 125 (Sam Camacho 6-5 over Joey Shaw) and 157 (Teagen Miller 6-4 sudden victory over Casey Allen).

Wylie Allen trailed just 3-1 in the third period of a 7-2 setback to Sage Nugent. At 197, Cornell's Kendale McCoy (SR/Oak Park, Ill.) was in a scoreless match going into the third with Donovan Corn before falling 5-0.

Coming up – Cornell hosts top-ranked Wartburg at 7 p.m. Friday in the Small Multi-Sport Center.
