Speaking of seeding the state tournament, I am not a fan of it as I still like the intrigue of the different matchups that the random draw creates. Yes, you may have a finals match in the earlier rounds, but the loser can still wrestle back for third. I think it adds some excitement to the early rounds. We will see what happens to the crowd in the early rounds or if they will wait until later rounds or semifinals to show up. Also there really was some great matchups last year on the first go around of seeding the state tournament.
The Predicament's last set of rankings are being released. It appears that 3A maybe a dogfight between Waverly-Shell Rock and Southeast Polk. After that it could be any of Fort Dodge Bettendorf, Waukee, Ankeny Centennial and Ankeny. The CIML is loaded this year with seven of the top ten teams ranked in the individual rankings.
In 2A, West Delaware appears to be head and shoulders ahead of the other schools. Sgt Bluff Luton, and Union could battle it out for second. The WaMaC conference has Independence and Solon ranked in the top ten. This is a very strong wrestling conference.
In 1A it looks like the depth of Don Bosco and Lisbon may end up making a pretty good race for the championship. Cael Happel of Lisbon will try to duplicate his brother Carter in becoming a four time state champion. Don Bosco defeated Lisbon in the dual meet late in the season, but that was a dual. Those two schools appear to lead the pack. Underwood and West Sioux should follow them. Adam Allard of West Sioux will also try to become a four time state champion.
We are finishing up the end of the college regular season. UNI is looking good if they can get healthy and have everyone in the lineup. The Panthers could make a run for a top ten finish.
Iowa State has made great strides since Kevin Dresser came to town. They have looked really, really good this year. There is a lot of fight in this team. They also can make a run for a top ten finish this year.
Iowa is also wrestling well. They are juggling the lineup around and wrestling some different guys. It may be so they can stay healthy and make a run for the title. It appears that this may be there year. In the next issue we will touch on the qualifiers for all of the Divisions. Division I, II and III as well as Junior College and NAIA. All of those teams have national title possibities.
As always Let's Keep Wrestling on the Move
