PELLA—Setting a new program standard, the American Rivers Conference announced six Central College wrestlers as all-conference performers Thursday afternoon.
It’s the most for Central since the new format for determining all-conference performers debuted in 2013. The all-conference team is determined by the top-three finishers from the nine conference schools at the 17-team NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional.
Duncan Lee (senior, Newton) went 4-0 at 285 pounds and was the individual champion at the regional. Nathan Fritz (senior, Sigourney) placed second at 184 pounds. Rob Areyano (senior, 149 pounds, Selma, Calif.) won the third-place match and earned his spot on the all-conference squad.
Shandon Akeo (junior, 133 pounds, Honolulu, Hawaii, Kapolei HS), Griffen McBride (junior, 174 pounds, Pleasantville) and Daniel Radcliffe (senior, 141 pounds, Lockport, Ill., Lockport Township HS) were all fourth-place finishers at the regional but finished third among conference wrestlers.
Lee, Fritz and Areyano qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships but did not compete after the competition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 public health threat.
