McDermott reaches pinnacle of NJCAA success

Boone McDermott made a bold statement before the 2019-20 wrestling season ever began.

McDermott put on all of his social media sites “2020 national champ.”

McDermott knew if he was going to talk the talk, then he had better walk the walk.

The former Dubuque Wahlert High School state champion did just that, and he did so emphatically.

McDermott, a redshirt freshman at Iowa Central Community College, not only won a national championship, he did so in the most dominant fashion possible.

McDermott needed just 3 minute, 20 seconds to pin his first four opponents at the NJCAA Wrestling Championships at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, then beat Darrell Mason of Ellsworth, 4-0, in the championship match to fulfill his quest.
