St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Suspends Fall Athletics

By Iowa Wesleyan

Mt. Pleasant, IA - August 21, 2020 - The following was released by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) this afternoon regarding athletic competitions for fall 2020. This decision impacts Iowa Wesleyan's Men's and Women's Golf and Men's and Women's Cross Country teams. All other IW programs have previously been postponed until spring 2021.

"The SLIAC President's Council, after receiving and reviewing the latest information and document from the NCAA concerning the safe return to sport for fall - 2020, voted to postpone all fall sport athletic contests, competitions, scrimmages and other shared athletic activities against outside competition of any classification or nature. The athletic teams on the SLIAC campuses will continue to be able to have team workouts, weight training, practices, sport-specific athletic activities, scrimmages, and leadership development within their own respective campus environment.

The President's Council felt the SLIAC made every reasonable effort to have competitions this fall, but under the recently received new guidelines from the NCAA, the Council came to the decision it was in the best interest of the safety of the student-athletes, coaches, athletic personnel, and campus in general, that all competition on each SLIAC campus against outside competitors be postponed for fall 2020 intercollegiate sports teams.

The SLIAC sport championships of cross country and women's golf, which are normally held during the fall season, will be reviewed for the possibility of moving those championships to spring, 2021."
