Don Bosco going for trophy sweep
Don Bosco is close to doubling up on team trophies, again.
The Dons already claimed the dual team trophy on Wednesday and now can sew up the traditional state title during Saturday's placing matches. Don Bosco leads second-place Libon 146-120.5. Logan-Magnolia sits in third with 81 points.
The Dons put four into Saturday's finals behind the strength of the middle of its lineup. Cael Rahnavardi scored a 1-0 win over New London's Dominic Lopez in the first tiebreaker session at 145. Cael Frost was a 7-1 winner over Lake Mills' Casey Hanson at 160. Twins Cade and Carson Tenold will both be wrestling for titles with Cade going at 170 after winning by technical fall over Council Bluffs St. Albert's Cael McLaren, and Carson downed West Sioux's Carson Lynott 7-2 at 182.
The Dons will have 11 wrestlers reach the podium and Lisbon has eight wrestlers who medaled. The Lions have four wrestlers going for titles. Sophomore Brandon Paez looks for his second crown after downing Riverside's Jace Rose 6-4 in the semifinals, and junior Robert Avila Jr. could claim title No. 3 after recording a technical fall over Mount Ayr's Trae Ehlen.
Cole Clark is after his first title at 220 after pinning Don Bosco's Jared Thiry, and Cade Siebrecht is a finalist at 126 after downing West Sioux's Cameron Clark 5-2.
Other notable finalists include Cascade's Aidan Noonan going for his third title at 132 as is New London's Marcel Lopez at 120.
