DES MOINES -- West Delaware won the Class 2A traditional state team title. The Hawks have 11 wrestlers on the podium and a pair of wrestlers will wrestle for state titles on Saturday night. The Hawks outdistanced Osage, last year's team champion, 115-82. Independence is third with 69 points.
The Hawks had four in the semifinals and saw junior Wyatt Voelker earn a 12-3 major decision over Reese Moore of Forest City at 195. Voelker will take on New Hampton/Turkey Valley's Jacob Reicks in the finals. He will be joined in the finals by heavyweight Carson Petlon, who downed West Lyon's Jordan Ver Meer 6-1. Petlon will face Grinnell's Kamrin Steveson for the title.
Last year, Osage was able to claim the title on the strength of five wrestlers finishing in the top five of their weight classes and plenty of bonus points along the way.
The Green Devils likely won't be able to chase down West Delaware this year, but it is not for a lack of trying. Osage brought six wrestlers to state, five placed and three will wrestle for titles. Both Spencer Mooberry at 182 and Nick Fox at 145 are back in the championship finals, looking to reverse the result from last year. Mooberry was a 5-4 winner over Cherokee's Cael Wood, and he will face defending state champion Adam Ahrendsen for the title.
Fox was a 7-3 winner over Camanche's Eric Kinkaid to reach the finals where he will try to deny Centerville's Matthew Lewis his fourth state title.
Averee Abben made it three Green Devils with a chance at a title when he blanked South Tama's Logan Arp 3-0 at 132. Abben, who finished fifth a year ago, will face Independence's Brandon O'Brien for a chance at a state title.
Crestwood's Carter Fousek and Solon's Hayden Taylor will be looking for their third state titles.
