Something had to give.
New London junior Marcel Lopez was looking for his third state title while Lisbon sophomore Brandon Paez was after his second then they met up in the 1A finals at 120.
After a scoreless first period, Lopez escaped from bottom to take a 1-0 lead and went on to win by that score. Paez chose neutral to start the third and could not get the takedown.
"I probably have the best top game in the entire tournament," Lopez said. "If you go down you are not going to get many points if not put to your back."
Lopez beat Paez earlier in the season, 3-2.
Don Bosco was the runaway winner of the team title, 179.5-148.5 over Lisbon. The Dons have won the past three 1A team crowns.
