Rams handle Iowa Wesleyan on the road, 38-7

MOUNT PLEASANT – Cornell's wrestling team continued its dominant ways Friday night with a 38-7 thumping of host Iowa Wesleyan inside Ruble Arena.

Coach Brent Hamm's Rams recorded their third consecutive convincing dual win and improved to 4-1 on the season. Iowa Wesleyan dropped to 2-1.

Cornell won eight straight matches during the meet, four of them ending with quick falls in the opening period. Freshman Cristian Dixon (FR/Saint Joseph, Mo.) (7-0 at 141 pounds), senior John Marsh (SR/Denver, Colo.) (6-0 at 174) and 10th-ranked senior Bryce Oveson (SR/Wilton, Iowa) (5-0 at 184) all remained undefeated for the Rams.

Evan Husko (SO/Wauconda, Ill.) got the Rams rolling in the 133-pound bout with a pin of Kajwan Thompson in a hasty 21 seconds, moving the sophomore to 7-1 on the year.

Dixon earned an 8-3 decision at 141, followed by a 24-9 technical fall by sophomore Jacob Ramirez (SO/Kankakee, Ill.) (4-1) that put the Rams ahead 14-4 through four matches. It was Dixon's fifth technical fall in seven matches.

Senior 157-pounder Austin Thomas (SR/Waterford, Wis.) controlled Javis Krieger for a 5-0 decision. The Rams then received back-to-back falls from Casey Allen (JR/Gilberts, Ill.) (56 seconds at 165) and Marsh (1:00 at 174), marking the third pin of the season for both Cornell wrestlers.

Oveson posted a 5-1 decision over Zach Thomas at 184. Senior 197-pounder Trevor Trende (SR/Cresco, Iowa) (4-1) put Jarron Metzler to his back for a fall in 1:12, his team-high fourth pin of the season.

The Rams have now accumulated 13 pins in five varsity dual meets.

Iowa Wesleyan tallied its points with wins at 125 (Brendan Ferenchik 13-4 over Jonah Kokin (FR/Woodland Hills, Calif.)) and 285 (Brendon Lunsford 7-2 over Alex Heisdorffer (SR/Walford, Iowa)).

Coming up – Cornell travels to Minneapolis, Minn., Feb. 28 for duals against Concordia (Minn.) at 1 p.m. and host Augsburg at 2:30 p.m.
