David wrestled for Al Baxter at Buena Vista College, graduating in 1988.  He spent 27 years as a head coach – six at George-Little Rock 1988-1994 and twenty-one at Spencer 1994-2015.  David also ran a youth program in Spencer for those twenty-one years, with over 100 wrestlers each year. David has been a solid member with the IWCOA and has worked diligently to support USA Wrestling and AAU sanctioned events.  David and his wife Laura have two sons, Tanner and Tyler, and he was a father figure to every kid who came through the program.

  • Lakes Conference Dual Record 138-21
  • NW Iowa District Coach of Year (10) years
  • 109 State Qualifiers- 39 Medalists, 3 State Champions
  • Led Spencer to its only State Dual Tournament in 2011
  • Inducted into the IHSAA Wrestling Hall Of Fame 2018
  • Three of his wrestlers competed in the Dream Team Classic
  • 15 former wrestlers competed in National Tournaments
